The technical track on Wireless Communications and Networking (WCN)
of the 42nd ACM/SIGAPP Symposium on Applied Computing
(SAC 2027)
will be held in Gwangju, South Korea, April 5 – 9, 2027. The track
invites high-quality research on the architectures, protocols, and intelligence
powering next-generation wireless networking.
Scope & Aims
Wireless Communications and Networking (WCN) technologies are the backbone of ubiquitous connectivity across consumer, industrial, vehicular, healthcare, smart infrastructure, and mission-critical domains. From wireless sensor networks to 5G-Advanced and emerging 6G systems, WCN continues to enable intelligent and highly connected ecosystems.
This track focuses on emerging WCN paradigms, including cell-free massive MIMO, V2X, metaverse networking, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs), Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), Open RAN, AI-RAN, semantic communication, and AI/ML-enabled wireless networking. These technologies are advancing capacity, latency, reliability, mobility, coverage, automation, and network intelligence.
The track also highlights NTNs, including LEO satellites, High-Altitude Platforms, and UAV-based relays, as key enablers of seamless global connectivity for rural, remote, disaster-recovery, maritime, aerial, and high-mobility scenarios.
The WCN track invites high-quality research on architectures, protocols, algorithms, performance evaluation, testbeds, simulations, standardization-oriented studies, and practical deployments. It aims to bring together academia, industry, and professionals to exchange ideas and identify future directions for next-generation wireless networking.

Paper Submission & Publication
Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished papers of research and applications for this track. Full papers are limited to 8 pages with the option for up to 2 additional pages. The author name(s) and address(es) must not appear in the body of the paper, and self-reference should be in the third person. This is to facilitate double-blind review. Only the title should be shown at the first page without the author information. Papers must be formatted according to the ACM SAC template. Contributions must contain original unpublished work. Papers that have been concurrently submitted to other conferences or journals (double submissions) will be automatically rejected.

Open Access Publication
As of 2026, ACM has fully transitioned to Open Access. All ACM publications, including those from ACM-sponsored conferences, are 100% Open Access.
Authors can publish Open Access articles with ACM either through the ACM Open institutional model or by paying Article Processing Charges (APCs).
With a large and growing number of institutions participating in ACM Open, many ACM-sponsored conference papers do not require APCs from authors.
Authors from institutions not participating in ACM Open may need to pay an APC, unless they qualify for a financial or discretionary waiver.

Important Note
Paper registration is mandatory to include papers and posters in the conference proceedings.
An author or a proxy attending SAC MUST present the paper.
This requirement applies to all accepted papers, posters, and invited SRC submissions for inclusion in the ACM digital library.
In case of personal circumstances preventing physical attendance, online presentation is allowed, ensuring the paper's inclusion in the ACM digital library.
Note that no registration refund will be issued to no-show authors.

Prof. Dongkyun Kim received the B.S. degree from Kyungpook National University and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Seoul National University. He has held research positions at Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of California, Santa Cruz. His research interests include connected vehicles, VANETs, IoT, M2M/D2D, Wi-Fi/Wi-Fi Direct, wireless mesh and sensor networks, future Internet, Open RAN, AI-RAN, and next-generation wireless networking. He has served on organizing and technical program committees for numerous IEEE/ACM conferences, held editorial roles in international journals, and organized WCN-related tracks at previous ACM SAC editions.

Prof. Wei Wang is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at San Diego State University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2009 and previously worked as a Software Engineer at Nokia Siemens Networks. His research interests include wireless networks, wireless multimedia communications, QoE/QoS, network economics, and IoT. He has served in major conference roles, including Publication Co-Chair for IEEE INFOCOM 2020, Area Chair for IEEE ICME, Symposium Co-Chair for IEEE GLOBECOM NGNI and IEEE ICC NGNI, Track Chair for ACM SAC 2019, and Program Co-Chair for ACM RACS. He has also served as a Guest Editor and TPC member for several IEEE/ACM venues and is a Senior Member of IEEE.
